Finding affiliate programs to promote isn’t too hard of a task. There are dozens of great affiliate networks on the internet as well as numerous affiliate programs in any industry you can think of.
When I’m looking for affiliate programs to promote, I look at certain criteria to determine whether I should invest any of my precious time in research, content and traffic towards promoting that affiliate program.
Some of the things I look for are:
(1) Overall Quality – I’m very wary about promoting scams or dubious products. I want to promote products that are going to help customers. I want to make sure that my recommendation provides exactly what the reader is looking for and that they’re happy with the recommendation. That way I would feel comfortable enough to recommend it knowing that it is filling a void in someone’s life.
You’ll make more money when you genuinely try to help people rather than just look for a quick buck.
To determine the quality of an affiliate program, I do some research to find reviews to make sure people are happy with their purchase. I look at the website of the program for any red flags and just to see what they’re offering. If I’m happy with everything that is being presented then I consider promoting the program but I look for some other stuff too.
(2) Commission Amount – One thing that I learned early on in affiliate marketing is that it takes just the same amount of energy and resources to promote high ticket items as it takes to promote something with a low commission amount or percentage.
The price is determined by the target market and what they can afford.
Sometimes the initial commission amount might seem small but if the affiliate program has a recurring structure, meaning that you earn money for the life of the customer, this could add up to huge profits. You promote the program once and get paid over and over.
(3) Has Training/Support – Most affiliate programs will give you a link and some banners to promote their program after you’ve signed up. They might even go further and give you some sample emails or articles you can use to generate ideas. And that’s about it.
Affiliate programs that provide training and affiliate support are great because you can always get additional ideas and promotional tips from their training rather than having to come up with everything yourself. It is always a good sign when you can get in touch with someone behind the affiliate program and these people can give you additional material to help with your promotions or answer any questions that you may have.
Now that I’ve shown you some of the criteria I look for when looking for affiliate programs, I present you with 4 very lucrative affiliate programs that fit in nicely with 2 or more of the points shown above.
1. WP Engine Affiliate Program
The WP Engine affiliate programs has one of the best commission structures that I’ve seen for a web hosting affiliate program.
They will give you $200 per sale to refer people to their managed WordPress hosting service. Managed WordPress hosting is somewhat different to the normal shared hosting because they deal specifically with WordPress sites and can provide WordPress specific support. They also handle security issues differently and will make sure the sites they manage don’t get hacked.
Because they deal with WordPress specifically, the user experience in regards to their WordPress site’s performance is usually better than with a typical hosting company. And it’s all manages so the site owners can sleep well without worrying about their site.
I am really pleased with the affiliate program because of a number of things. The commission structure is great with them offering $200 per sale as well as special tiered bonuses. So if you make a certain amount of sales they will reward you with an extra bonus. For example, if you make 5 sales in a month they’ll give you $100 and the bonus increases with each tier. If you make 10 sales, they’ll give you an extra $250 plus the $100 bonus for making the initial 5 sales!
You can read more about how it works here.
But the real reason I love this program is the affiliate support that you get. Besides the regular affiliate announcements for the program where they tell you about special sales events and other WP Engine affiliate related stuff, the affiliate team will assign you an affiliate manager who will send you an email every now and again to see how your promotions are going and to remind you that you can always directly reach someone at WP Engine if you need anything.
This is great because it shows that they’re equally dedicated to helping their affiliates as they are to providing an excellent web hosting service.

2. Shopify Affiliate Program
Shopify is a website that provides some of the best online store sites for people who want to sell their products online. Over 60,000 stores have chosen Shopify to create their online store and the site has great brand recognition so you’re promoting something that people looking for this solution can trust.
The affiliate program offers a 200% bounty meaning that you get paid two times the customer’s initial monthly fee. Their prices range from $27 per month to $179 per month so you get anywhere from $58 per sale to $358 per sale depending on which plan the customer chooses.
Shopify also makes it easy getting people to try their service by offering a 14 day free trial without a credit card and their features are top of the line.
You can join Shopify’s affiliate program here.
3. Highwire Affiliate Program
Highwire operates in the same niche as Shopify above. They provide a unique shopping cart allowing users to sell via multiple channels. Besides having a store site, users can set up a shop on Facebook, eBay, Google and Bonanza.
They have a host of features that you can use as selling points and I find that they convert very well.
They affiliate program pays 25% for the life of the customer meaning one referral can pay for a very long time. You can expect someone who sets up a successful store to keep paying their monthly bill for a long time.
Highwire offers low cost plans starting at $14.95 and goes up to $29.95 meaning that you only make $3.50 – $7.25 per customer. The lucrativeness lies in the recurring nature of the affiliate program. Refer 100 customers and you’re making $350 – $725 per month from one affiliate program with no maintenance.
Highwire makes it easy for you to convert your traffic by offering a unique service for a low price and a free 14 day trial with no credit card required.

4. Wealthy Affiliate Affiliate Program
Niche: Internet Business > All Types
Commission Structure: Depends on Membership Level (Details below)
Payment Frequency: Monthly via Paypal
Join Program: Get a Free Starter Account here
If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I’m a member of the Wealthy Affiliate online business community and that I love recommending their affiliate marketing training.
The biggest reason for this is not the commissions but the fact that I’ve used their program since it was even half as good as it is now to learn how to really make money online and eventually quit my job to do affiliate marketing full time. Even if they didn’t have an affiliate program, I would still recommend them.
You can read my review of Wealthy Affiliate here.
Wealthy Affiliate offers training in mainly affiliate marketing but also lets users learn various components of internet marketing including Search Engine Optimization, pay-per-click advertising, local marketing and much more. There are text and video tutorials as well as weekly webinars and classrooms where you can have discussions.
Besides the training members can interact in a social atmosphere by creating a profile and following other members, blogging and offering help and advice.
The program offers two membership levels – the free Starter account and the premium account.
The commission structure of the Wealthy Affiliate program depends on which membership level you’re currently at while promoting the program.
For Starter members, they will earn around 25% of the membership fee for the life of the member they’ve referred. Monthly commissions are $11.25 for referring someone who signs up and becomes a premium member. Premium members can also pay annually for which a Starter member will receive $87.50 per year.
Premium members are the only ones that earn for referring a free member and this is typically $1.00 for every free Starter account created. Monthly commissions are around 50% and this means $22.50 for someone who becomes a premium member or $175 per year for someone who takes the annual membership option.
All commissions are payable for as long as a member stays premium. A great example of how this can add up is that since I’ve been promoting Wealthy Affiliate in 2007, I’m still getting $14 commissions from when the membership was only $28 per month (back then the service was much different).
The great thing about the program is the training that is provided. Since you’re learning how to do affiliate marketing you’re already getting great training but they go one step further by providing a Wealthy Affiliate Bootcamp where you can learn how to set up a site to promote Wealthy Affiliate from initially installing WordPress to increasing conversions on your site and using different promotional methods.
You’ll learn how to set up a high converting site and get the support right then and there in an open, social and engaging way.
You can check out the Wealthy Affiliate Bootcamp training (Phase 1) here.
Those are just 4 affiliate programs that you can start promoting today knowing that you are helping someone find a solution that works for them.
I hope that you do check them out and that I’ve helped you to find an affiliate program that will make you a substantial amount of money.
