If that were the case, I think it would have been already shut down by the FTC. Right now, it is free to become an IBO as they have done away with the registration fee. You might still need to purchase a kit but it is not required.

Generally no. However, most sellers who have multiple products would offer what is called “deep linking”. Deep linking is where you can add your affiliate id to any page on the sellers website and it will be tracked. This way your visitors will end up on the page that is most relevant to them and you’ll get a commission if they purchase.

Some merchants either have a tool for you to deep link or a way for you to add the affiliate id into the relevant page url. Amazon, for example, has a feature called Site Stripe, where your affiliate link for any specific page is automatically generated and displayed at the top of the page.

Next question: Is there generally a way to edit an affiliate link so it points to a specific product on the seller’s site? I’m seeing some that just point to the website, so the person clicking the link would then have to search for the product, I don’t like that idea.

Good question. The idea is that the link takes you to the relevant information on the advertisers website. What you’re supposed to do is add value in some way so that your audience will be interested in clicking the link and hopefully buying those products.

Some ways to add value are to:

1. show yourself using the product
2. do a review and recommend the product
3. show how the product can solve common problems or satisfy a need

When you do this your audience is pre-sold from your unique perspective that the seller could not have offered and they’ll be more likely to buy the product. Use the affiliate link and you get a well deserved commission.

Interesting reading your posts. I recently joined Amway, not sure how this will turn out – my coach says he’s going slow to do well. But I am interested in learning more about affiliate marketing. Any chance I could see what one of your websites looks like that you do this on??? Just curious. I’m going to think about my niche. Is there a place I can find a list of stores or partners I could sell products from? Still all new for me, but find it very interesting and looking to doing something different in the future.
