Affiliate Marketing Tools & Resources

In any business whether online or offline, you need access to different tools and resources to aid the everyday running of your business. In online business there are some that are an absolute must to invest in while others are optional or can be found for free.

In my 8 years online, I’ve used a variety of resources, some I’m very pleased with and continue to use today and some that I’ve since abandoned probably because they didn’t quite work for me or I found better options.

On this page you’ll find a list of resources that I am happy to endorse. I’ve used them and they work for me and I have great confidence in recommending them to you.

Affiliate Marketing Training

Wealthy Affiliate – This is the site that I’ve used since January 2007 for affiliate marketing training. I’m still a member there and love the easy to follow training and the helpful and busy community.

You can see my review  here. It costs nothing to get started and you can access the premium training for $49 per month or even less if you choose to pay annually.

Domain Names

To succeed in affiliate marketing you’ll need a domain name (website address). When I tried to buy my first domain, I initially went with 1&1 but had a bad pre-sale experience. I ended up not using them and for a while I bought all my domains through Godaddy.

Just last year though, I decided to drop Godaddy and move all my domains to NameSilo.

A few of my reasons for moving my domains to NameSilo from Godaddy:

  • domains are always $8.99 (or less)
  • private registration is always free (for life)
  • renewals are always $8.99
  • no unnecessary fees
  • none of that pushy cross selling
  • buy domains with what you make in affiliate earnings
  • They’re cheaper than any other domain registrar (including NameCheap).

NameSilo is one of the lesser known domain registrars but I’m really happy with their service and now register all my domains there. You can use the coupon AMVSMLM1 to get $1 off new new domain registrations and transfers to Namesilo.

Web Hosting

In order to host your domain and display your website, you need quality web hosting. There are hundreds if not thousands of sites where you could host your site online but not all web hosts are built the same.

For the affiliate marketer, the most common hosting needs are a shared web hosting plan that allows you to install multiple websites and can also handle a lot of bandwidth for the days when you get a huge amount of visitors to your site.

You also need to make sure that there aren’t any problems with uptime and that you can always get some sort of support whenever you need it.

Over the years, since 2006, I have hosted with at least three web hosts that I’m happy to recommend. I have also read horror stories about other web hosts but thankfully, I’ve never encountered any problems of my own.

(1) Siteground

Siteground is my number one recommended web hosting provider. This is the very first web host I ever had since 2006 and because they’ve provided such a great service over the years.

Siteground beats out the competition because they’re a better WordPress host and excels in a lot of other areas as well. From speed to protecting your website from hacking and intrusion, they provide so much value as a web host.  Their uptime is great – 99% guaranteed and they have everything an affiliate marketer needs to run multiple niche websites using WordPress.

Their service is also very affordable and competitively priced at $3.95 per month.

Check out my full SiteGround review here.

(2) Wealthy Affiliate

Wealthy Affiliate, which I recommended for affiliate marketing training isn’t exactly a stand alone web hosting provider but they do offer free web hosting for members.

If you’re an affiliate marketer and want to network with other affiliate marketers or if you want to learn more about affiliate marketing then you can take advantage of the free unlimited web hosting provided by Wealthy Affiliate. You can host your sites as you learn affiliate marketing.

You get two free websites on a subdomain of the domain to start with. Keep in mind that in order to host your own domains, you will need to upgrade to premium service which costs $49 per month. If you just need web hosting then you can choose from the above two choices of Bluehost or Hostgator.

Website Builder

There are lots of choices for building a website, from simple drag and drop solutions like Wix to Weebly to blogging applications like Blogger and WordPress.

My website builder of choice is WordPress and the same can be said of tens of thousands of affiliate marketers online. WordPress, which originally started as a blogging application, is now used by most internet marketers as a website building solution because of its ease of use, extendability, and because of it’s open source nature which allows a wide community of developers to work on different theme designs and plugins.

I use WordPress because you can get it up fast – seconds to a few minutes – and all you have to do after that is post content. Nothing simplifies the web building needs of an affiliate marketer than WordPress.

To get WordPress, you need to have a web hosting account where you can install the application from your dashboard.

Or you can simply use SiteRubix to quickly install your website on free Wealthy Affiliate’s hosting platform (you can upgrade later to use your own domain name).

WordPress Themes (Premium)

WordPress themes are the design you use for your website (providing you’re using WordPress for your website builder). There are literally hundreds of thousands of themes available for you to make your website look beautiful either available for free or paid.

Free WordPress themes can work a lot of the times if you find one that is of good quality but sometimes these free themes can cause problems if you’re not careful. For example, a free theme that hasn’t been updated to be used with the latest version of WordPress can make you vulnerable to hacking.

Because people pay for premium themes, the developers have an obligation to make sure that the themes are kept updated and looking their best as well as providing features that website owners would love to see in the perfect theme.

Generally speaking, premium themes are usually the best to go with if you’re serious about your business.

I have been using paid themes since my first website got hacked and injected with malware in 2006. I’ve tried a number of themes but ultimately settled for a couple.

(1) Genesis FrameWork from Studiopress

After building a real estate website for a local client, I fell in love with Studiopress themes and have used them for most of my websites.

You can read my review  and reasons why here.

(2) MyThemeShop

MyThemeShop is another premium theme provider that has beautiful themes that I really love. I stumbled upon them while looking for a review type theme for an Amazon site and got more than I bargained for.

Since then I’ve bought some more of their themes and I’ve written a review that gives 9 reasons why I love their themes.
