Are you looking for a review of Jenny Lewis’ work from home guide called VO Genesis?
If you want to know what I think about this guide, if it is indeed legit then read on because I bought it myself and checked it out to see if the information is of any use.
VO Genesis doesn’t target the online business niche, but I still decided to do a review about it as it does involve making money from home to some degree.
In other words, someone interested in doing online business might be interested in this method of making money.
The reason I’m doing this review is to inform people on whether or not VO Genesis will be of any help to them.
You can’t tell much by the name and the capture page for VO Genesis doesn’t exactly tell you what it’s about but VO Genesis stands for Voice Over Genesis, a guide that shows you how to make money as a voice over artist.
Voice over artists are actors that do voice work for television commercials, audio books, animated films, documentaries or any work that needs narration where you don’t appear in person to the listener.
This kind of work can be very lucrative and according to Voices.com, you could earn as much as $100 for a 15 second recording, $250 for a 30 second commercial and $3000 for an audiobook.
VO Genesis is written by Jenny Lewis (which I think is a pen name) and details how to get started as a voice over artist.
The author also offers several bonus guides that should help you once you’ve already gotten started and there are some additional guides that should help you make even more money.
When I was asked to do a review of VO Genesis, I fully expected it to be another one of those scams that promise you fast money doing very little work.
With a headline like “Discover a weird loophole I used to make $8250 in a month from home in my pajamas”, you have to be a little doubtful.
After taking a closer look though, I didn’t see any signs that VO Genesis was a scam. With voice over work, earning $8250 in a month is very achievable when you know what you’re doing and already have experience.
In reality, it will take a while to get to that level if you’re just starting out or looking for this information.
There is a hint of hype in the marketing on the sales page which might explain why I was asked to review VO Genesis. However when I got to the actual product, I was glad to see that it was something people could actually use.
It’s not for everyone though which might be different from what the sales page promises. Is it for you? Read on.
Purchasing the main VO Genesis product was easy. The product is processed through Clickbank which means you have a full 60 days to try the product and get a no-hassle refund if you not satisfied.
The guide is retailed for $39.95 but after clicking away a couple of times I was able to get it for $19.95. I paid with Paypal and was immediately sent an email with the link to the download page.
I wasn’t sent to the download page on purchase though. Instead I was sent to an upsell where Jenny Lewis offers another guide called the VO Genesis Accelerator that promises to get you into the top 2% of voice over artists, the elite group that commands the highest fees for their work.
I didn’t get an option to skip these upsells which would have been frustrating if I didn’t already know that I had the download link for my purchase in my email.
I didn’t buy the upsells (there’s another one still after VO Genesis Accelerator called Multiple Streams of Income). These are optional and not required for you to make money if you have the main product. Skipping these would offer you discounts.
The actual Voice Over Genesis guide is very informative and I’d say that as someone who has no idea about the voice over industry, I would say that I learned a great deal.
If I was actually interested in doing this, I would be well informed and ready to get started. I would know where to start and what to do next.
The guide walks you through everything you need to know from what types of jobs you can do as a voice over artist to resources and websites you can use to get gigs.
Some of the things you will learn from this guide are:
I think this guide and it’s accompanying bonuses are perfect for anyone who might be interested in being a voice over artist. Just do not buy into the hype that you’re going to make $8000 anytime soon.
Personally, I think that if you have the voice talent, drive and desire to become a voice over artist and you’re willing to develop that talent by getting a little voice training and doing the work it takes then you’ll make money.
If you think that you don’t have a great voice, or you’re not confident enough, you can still get over these hurdles as VO Genesis has tips that you can use in the comfort of your own home to help you. There are also links to workshops that you can take to enhance your skills.
To be honest, I don’t think that VO Genesis is for everyone. There are many that will be interested initially but will not do anything with the information given.
I’m one of those people. I thought to myself “Hmmm this sounds great. I wonder what I could do?”
After reading about having natural talent or developing what you have, I figured that my West Indian accent might hold me back in the “naturally talented area”. I don’t have the desire to develop what I already have so I guess I’m not going to be doing voice over work.
I’m quite comfortable with blogging and making websites as an affiliate marketer. If this is you as well then you might be interested in affiliate marketing (the type of business that I do) and you can learn how to do this through Wealthy Affiliate (my review), the same training site that I use.
If you think voice over work is something that you would definitely want to do considering it can make you really good money, then VO Genesis and it’s bonus guides is a great place to start.
I can’t tell you whether this is something for you or not, you just have to be honest with yourself and think about whether or not you have the talent (or willingness to learn), the drive and desire to be a voice over artist.
All in all, VO Genesis is a great guide that is thoroughly informative and provides you with everything you need to get started in the lucrative voice over artist industry.
It’s not a scam but it’s also not for everyone.
You can buy VO Genesis here and leave your questions, comments, feedback etc, in the comments section below. I’d really love to hear from you.
Thank you for writing a thorough review. Like you said, it’s not too obvious from the website that the program is about Voiceover work. Now that I know what the program is about, it doesn’t actually sound like a scam.
I personally don’t think this program would be for me as I’m not particularly interested in voice over work, but it could be good for someone who is interested in it and is willing to utilise the training.
It’s clear that this program is more about someone taking action with the training materials provided in order to make money as a voiceover artist.
Thanks again for the insightful review.
Thanks for the feedback Stephanie.
This is exactly what I want people to understand when they read this review. You just summed up my entire review of VO Genesis with this short comment.
I’m looking for my refund and no body contacted me yet.
Ashley, you can get a refund by contacting Clickbank (their payment processor) directly and filling out the form. You can check your receipt you got when you bought the product and it should have the page and procedure for getting a refund. As long as you’re within the 60 days, you should receive a refund.
You have to contact clickbank… the link they sent when you signed up… they are usually really good at no hassle refunds
I read your review and it’ s very informative I like how you covered all areas of this product in order for the person reading your blog to decide weather or not to try it out for them self.
Thanks Mark. I really don’t want anyone to be confused as to what they’re getting so I tried my best make sure that doesn’t happen.
Jay, I have a blind friend who purchased the program and could not unlock the PDF file. The -pany wouldn’t help him unlock it because of piracy concerns, therefore he could not access the program, and could not read it on his -puter, so he had !get his money back. I, too, am totY blind, and would like to get into voiceover work, but am afraid that after I purchased it, I will not be a !unlock it either and therefore my accessi technology will not be a !access the PDF document and I will not be a !read it. What are your thought on this?
This is an interesting question because to my knowledge (I bought the PDF myself), the file is not locked but I don’t know if there is maybe a way to unlock access for blind people?? If this is the case then they probably hadn’t thought about that when they created the file and there isn’t any access for the visually impaired audience.
I’m not sure what can be done in this case except maybe to not purchase this product and search for more information on voiceover work elsewhere. But just to be clear, the file opens right away without the need to unlock it the last time I checked and if for some reason it’s locked, I’m sure there are unlock instructions that come with the purchase.
Thank you for the information; I really appreciate it. I received an e-mail about this product. Jenny or the bot asked for my input today. I am tired of the world of scammers. Hopefully their issue is a weak customer service department. Well, being the kind of person that I am, I referenced I could not even think of purchasing their product until they provided customer service to their blind customers who are having difficulty opening the pdf document. I hope this helps to speed along the process. I did not mention your website only the problem that some of their customers are having with the program. Thanks again, Jay.
So is this a way to get started in voice over work? Or is it just telling you how to get started in voice over work? I’m confused.
It’s telling you how to get started in voice over work.
If you want to skip the VO Genesis or other how-to’s—go to Voices.com and sign up to audition for voice over gigs.
This is ONLY for people who already have some recording equipment, and knowledge on how to save as .WAV or MP3 files.
They are looking for all kinds of voices, all accents, all dialects. Hundreds of jobs in the listings.
In VO Genesis they recommended some websites and Voices was one of them.
What are some of the other websites they list as a reference into the Voice Over Buisness? So after this purchase, are you directly linked up with Immediate Job Opportunities? Or what’s the gist of this VO Genesis package? Maybe if you wouldn’t mind shooting down a few Highlighted Topics, Pointers, Websites, etc… Hopefully this will convince me into investing my $Money$ & Time in Jenny’s program here. I already have a little home Music studio & Vocal booth. Would Love to start watching
that Paper pour in through my studio doors. ✌??
Want that paper flyin through your doors then go buy it yourself and DO THE WORK to earn it vs scamming someone for freebies to test the waters. Also, maybe you’ve learned this since 2017 but I’ve got news for you nobody watches papers fly through the door they only make them fly through the door through effort hard work failing tripping falling and learning from the mistakes and mastering. Absolutely nobody anywhere is entitled nor receives true success by watching anything. Lol typical water testing talkers irritate me. They never experience success.
Hi, I am from Malaysia. I am wondering if this applies to non-native speakers as well; although we speak English fluently
If there are non-native voice over work available in your area then the guide can help you.
Honest comments only is this product worth spending my money on? Does it actually work.
It’s only info. I wouldn’t recommend it if you aren’t already actively looking into doing voiceover work. The sales page for VO Genesis is very misleading. They make it sound as if anyone can just buy their guide and have something they can make money with. The truth is that 99 percent of people who are looking into this is not going to make money. The 1 percent who will are people who are already actively looking into doing voiceover and just need to know more about the process and what works.
Thanks for the detailed review, Jay! I wanted to know whether can one consider it as a means of earning some side income? Just like many others, I’m not considering VO artist as a full-time career option. But it seems a good way to earn a few bucks without toiling much.
Yes. Voice overs can make a good side income and VO Genesis points you to places on the internet like Voices.com and you can find gigs on sites like Backstage.
So I take it that even if you go through the entire VO Genesis program you still need voice recording equipment beyond your lap top. Is that right?
Yes Trish that is right.
How much does the recording equipment cost
This is covered under Chapter 5 in VOGenesis. Basically, you’ll need a microphone preferably one with a pop filter and stand. You can use a headset if you like but a more professional setup is better. Mics range from $25 on the low end to $400 on the high end. You might find a good one for under $100. You’ll also need recording software (free ones are available), headphones, maybe speakers,. There’s an entire chapter on setting up a home studio for recording on a budget.
The review is rather interesting. I needed to confirm if the whole thing was a scam. I have had no prior Experience in voice overs but i think i could give this a try.
It’s not a scam but it’s also not as easy as they make it out to be.
Hi. I am just one of the many who have been scarred by trying to better financial and knowledge in an online package – only to come out worse for wear. Im glad to read your review of This VO package – but bit confused now – Does it have All you need for a newby beginner never-done-it-before to pick this up with ease and complete understanding – without ongoing cost and lack of clear understanding?
Ive also heard of Wealthy Affiliate and started to get involved, but found it very expensive to go forward(being otu of work so not able to keep a monthly payment, before full training or any $ result was coming In. As though they say Free to join, if you dont start payinng the monthly fee quite quickly, I found I got cut out of all training info!? – so into dead water and couldnt even contact other people. :-/
Thanks
In my review I’ve mentioned that VO Genesis isn’t for everyone. If you don’t have a genuine interest in doing voice over work then this is not for you.
VO Genesis is purely an info product and contains information on how to profit from doing voice overs. The sales copy is a bit on the side of hype and it isn’t as easy as they make it to be. However if you really want to do voiceovers, I’ll have to say that the guide is very good so its not a scam.
Short answer, everything is not included but the info is there.
As for Wealthy Affiliate, its an educational platform just like college and university where you pay thousands of dollars to learn a specific skill. Only that wealthy Affiliate is much cheaper and you’re building a business that you can profit from for years to come. You have to invest in your education and Wealthy Affiliate is one of the best places online to learn from.
Hey Jay: Thanks kindly for your Vogenesis Review. Finally maybe I can get some help from you with regards to a Vogenesis Clickbank Listing, specifically the following:
2 Offers: Vogenesis + DatadollarsPro – Bonus Cash In Sept 2016
As you can see the listing is a bit outdated. Have attempted to send a support ticket with zero results and when I do get a response, I’m informed that I should contact the manager which I’ve done with no response. I also get a response that the ticket is closed and unable to read any support ticket, because it requires one to login with a password which I don’t have, because the product was not purchased. Clickbank is not much help either. They will respond to a clickbank ticket, but informs me that they are unable to delete this vendor from the clickbank vendor list of affiliate clickbank products. With the size of Clickbank, you would think they have some kind of power to have a vendor either edit the listing or delete it. My question to you Jay, what justifies Clickbank from deleting this listing. Yes, Clickbank also inform me that they would contact the vendor on my behalf to attempt some kind of solution. Your response would be kindly appreciated.
P.S: The Clickbank listing I refer to can be found at the Clickbank Site, MarketPlace link, do a search for Vogenesis and you will find two listings which includes the outdated Sept 2016 listing.
What’s the question you had about the listing? The vendor apparently edited the listing that month to promote their contest to affiliates and never bothered to edit it back. But Clickbank cannot edit or delete the vendors listing in the marketplace because that’s the only listing by which affiliates can find VO Genesis.
If you have a question about the listing maybe I can answer it.
Thanks for responding Jay.
My question regarding the Vogenesis Clickbank Listing.
Would like to have the vendor do a edit back so the listing
Sept 2016 doesn’t show anymore. Have been unsuccessful
contacting support with a solution instead seem to be getting
the run around with no solution. When support does respond
I’m informed to contact an Affiliate Manager by the name of
Nicholas at: jv@successvantage.com which I’ve completed with no
response. Suggestions would be appreciated.
I see. We all want to make the world a better place don’t we?
I would suggest you just let it be. Let Nicholas Tan and Success Vantage handle their issues. It doesn’t affect you in any way even if you’re promoting the product so focus on what matters – you making money online.
“You See Something, You Say Something”
Mission Accomplished, Nicholas Tan thanked me for
the heads up to make the necessary corrections.
Also, the worse thing a Clickbank Vendor can do is
put a year in the listing that becomes outdated and
they completely forget about it. As a marketer, I would
appreciate someone bringing something to my attention
that needed updating, etc.
Anyway, thanks for your help and feedback Jay and
happy that you are doing well learning, doing, hard work
and never giving up.
That’s great Jim. I’m glad things worked out for everyone.
is this good for practice for when you become a podcaster. that is what i plan on doing
I guess you can use the info for that too but it’s really for people who are set on getting hired for voice-over work. Maybe you can try finding a course on podcasting which might have information more fitting to your needs.
Can this home based business be conducted from South Africa? Is there also a market for voice recording in South Africa?
Ben
Ben, this can be done from anywhere in the world as there are jobs you can do remotely by applying through freelance job websites and job boards online. Local opportunities should also be available if you want to voice over for production studios that produce radio ads, tv ads, audiobooks, animated movies and shorts, television shows and so on just to name a few. I’m sure there are companies in South Africa that are looking for voice over artists. It can be tough to break in because many of these companies choose already established talent but when you realize that these talent started somewhere, you can see the possibilities.
I signed up for VO Genesis a few weeks ago. I paid for the course with my credit card and have received or heard nothing! What’ up?! This is looking like a scam!!
You should have received an email with the links to access the download area for VO Genesis. I bought it too and got access so it’s most definitely not a scam. If you can’t find the email (look in all the folders or search your inbox for “vo genesis”), then you can always contact Clickbank customer service (their payment processor) and ask them for the download page. You’ll have to confirm that it is you who bought the course and they can send you the download page.
