Dividend ThemeThe Dividend Theme from MyThemeShop is a beautiful new magazine theme with a special touch added to it.

The theme has a custom post type for creating deals so you can make a deals website or add a deals section to your website.

This is the type of WordPress theme that usually distracts me and makes me want to start a new project.

However, I would not be building a deals website. This review is written to show you why you might want to consider using the Dividend Theme for your new website whether it’s a blog, magazine website or a deals website.

What’s Special About Dividend Theme

There are probably thousands of magazine themes available on the internet for you to choose from. However not all magazine themes are created equal.

MyThemeShop itself has a lot of magazine themes available for you to try and they all seem to have something special about them apart from their design.

With the Dividend theme, the ability to create a deals website sets this theme apart from other magazine themes. Dividend Theme doubles as a WordPress magazine theme and a WordPress deals theme.

Another reason why the Dividend theme might be different is the fact that it is a MyThemeShop theme.

MyThemeShop is one of my favorite WordPress themes provider for a number of reasons which I explain here. Every reason why I love using MyThemeShop themes is reflected in the Dividend magazine theme.

Like all themes by MyThemeShop, the Dividend theme is packed with features and is loaded with theme options for you to modify the look and feel of the website you create using this theme. It’s super flexible and allows you to make a theme that looks different from the demos.

The Dividend Theme Demos

As with any MyThemeShop themes, getting one theme is like getting 3 or 4 different themes. You get access to the default theme and you can easily import the others through the Theme Options.

With the Dividend Theme, there are 4 demos including the default. Besides the default theme, there’s the Deals layout, a Magazine layout and a Minimal layout.

The theme is also compatible with WooCommerce and can be used to make an eCommerce store.

I really liked the Deals layout and the Minimal layout the most for this theme but the other layouts looked great too and had some very useful features.

Dividend Features I Really Liked

MyThemeShop is always packing their themes with new and exciting features while still keeping the themes clean, lightweight and well coded.

A lot of these features eliminate the need to use plugins since the features are built right into the theme. The less plugins you have to use, the better.

Here are some features of Dividend that I really liked.

(1) Lots of Homepage Options

homepage options

There are a bunch of options available to design your homepage the way you want it. This theme has some unique homepage options that I haven’t seen for other MyThemeShop themes like the client carousel and the call to action sections.

The client carousel lets you add media and client logos where your work or website has been featured, the ‘as seen on’ section, so you can add social proofing to your website. This section appears just above the footer section.

The featured categories section lets you add posts from any category to your homepage and lets you choose from 7 post layouts. Some layouts let you add a sidebar to the section so you can have a sidebar on the homepage if you like.

You have full control of what you can add or remove from the homepage so you can design the homepage however you like, including the background colors or text fonts.

(2) Facebook & WordPress Comments

I like that the theme lets you add Facebook comments in addition to WordPress comments. Also, if you like you can just use Facebook comments and disable WordPress comments.

To enable Facebook comments, all you need is a Facebook App Id, which you will be show how to get.

(3) Control Post Meta Info

Depending on the type of website you’re creating, not everyone likes to show post meta info (author name, category, post date etc.).

The Dividend theme options lets you easily get rid of all or individual post meta items. So if you want to just remove the author name and keep everything else, you can do that. Don’t want to show the post date? You can just uncheck a box to get rid of it.

You can also remove or include breadcrumbs on posts as well as show or hide the post category.

(4) One Click Child Themes

This is one of my favorite features of MyThemeShop’s themes. You can create a child theme by giving the theme a custom name and clicking create. This makes the original theme a parent theme and then you can customize away without fear that updates will erase the changes you make.

Other themes are built on a Framework theme like Genesis, but Dividend theme becomes the framework with this feature. You only need to purchase one theme instead of two.

(5) Creating Deals from the Dashboard

Finally, the ability to create deals is the biggest appeal of this theme for me. Deals are a custom post type and instead of creating a deal as a regular post, there is a section in your WordPress dashboard for you to create deals.

You will then get a special post editor that lets you add all the info like:

  • Post title
  • Deal info
  • Button text
  • Deal URL
  • Deal description
  • Deal expiry date
  • No expiry date checkbox

You’ll be able to manage all your individual deals posts like this and still further control how they are displayed through theme options settings.

The theme options for deals lets you manage how deals are displayed on your deals page, such as excluding expired deals and showing featured categories of deals.

Deals Demo Theme Page Setup

The Deals demo is probably my favorite of the Dividend themes. While I was testing this, I ended up showing the blog archive as the homepage which is different from the demo displayed.

I quickly figured out that to get the deals to show on the homepage, you have to create a blog page and a deals page then set the site to static. Then you can set the front page to display the Deals page and the posts page to display Blog.

No worries if you can’t figure out something as there are video tutorials included with the theme and you have 24 hour support through the MyThemeShop members forum.

Should You Get the Dividend Theme?

After going over this theme on my test website, I can say that this theme is very flexible and it can be used to build almost any type of website.

You can use any of the 4 demo designs depending on the type of website you’re trying to create. For example, I’d use the Minimal design if I was building an Amazon affiliate website or the Default design if I was building a news website or a regular blog.

The Dividend theme though would be particularly useful if you want to build a deals website for Black Friday or maybe a daily deals website in a specific niche. This theme can make you a lot of money if you think about it.
